10+ Funny Questions that Actually Help You Get to Know Someone

Whether you’ve known someone for 10 minutes or 10 years, there are always new things to discover about them. Coming up with fun, interesting questions on the spot can be tough—which is why we’ve compiled a list for you! Try asking these at the next party or get-together you go to for an interesting conversation that’s sure to engage everyone.

Method 1 of 11:
“If you joined the circus, what would your act be?”
  1. What would this person do if they were an entertainer? Have them describe their circus act (in detail!) to find out what special talents they might have. You can let them know whether or not they should quit their day job.[1]
    • You could also ask something like, “If you were on America’s Got Talent, what would you perform?” Or, “If you had a YouTube channel, what would you record?”

Method 2 of 11:
“Would you rather always sweat or always cry?”
  1. Get a little silly with a fun would you rather question. The more ridiculous the better! Feel free to judge the other person’s answer or even give an answer of your own. You could also ask:[2]
    • “Would you rather never sleep again or never eat again?”
    • “Would you rather eat pizza or hotdogs for every meal?”
    • “Would you rather have toes for fingers or fingers for toes?”

Method 3 of 11:
“What’s the funniest joke you’ve ever heard?”
  1. Get to know their sense of humor a little bit more. Ask them to tell you a joke that had them rolling on the floor laughing. Bonus points if you tell a joke, too![3]
    • Follow up with questions like, “Who’s the funniest person that you know?” Or, “If you were a comedian, what would be your opening joke?”

Method 4 of 11:
“What’s a memory that still makes you laugh?”
  1. Learn more about what makes this person chuckle. Have them tell you a funny memory that still makes them tear up with laughter every time. You can get more info about their friends, their family members, and who they hang out with through this question. Follow up with questions like:[4]
    • “Who makes you laugh the hardest?”
    • “How would you describe your sense of humor?”

Method 5 of 11:
“If I turned into a zombie, what would you do?”
  1. See how they’d react in an apocalyptic situation. This is a great question to ask a friend so they reveal their true feelings. If they’d kill you right away, there might be something they need to get off their chest! Ask other questions like:[5]
    • “Do you think you’d survive a zombie apocalypse?”
    • “How do you think the world will end?”

Method 6 of 11:
“What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever eaten?”
  1. See if they’re a foodie or more of a picky eater. People also love to share their travel stories if they’ve eaten something weird abroad. You can learn more about their preferences and where in the world they’ve been. You could also ask:[6]
    • “What’s your go-to meal?”
    • “What’s your favorite comfort food?”

Method 7 of 11:
“What TV show do you secretly enjoy?”
  1. Learn more about this person’s guilty pleasures. You can open up by sharing your favorite TV series so the person feels less judged. Bond over your love for reality TV shows, cheesy soap operas, or teen dramas.[7]
    • Ask other questions like: “What do you do to wind down?” Or, “What’s your favorite series to binge watch?”

Method 8 of 11:
“If you could be any celebrity, who would it be?”
  1. Learn more about which celebrities they like with this question. If they pick someone super famous, they might like the spotlight! If they pick someone a little more obscure, they might be fine hanging out in the shadows. You never know: you might have a few things in common! You could also ask questions like:[8]
    • “If you could replace your BFF with a celebrity, who would you choose?”
    • “If you had to run a celebrity’s social media, whose would you pick and why?”

Method 9 of 11:
“Who is the messiest person that you know?”
  1. Learn more about the people in their life with this question. They might tell you about their kids, their mom, or even their dog! You can both have a chuckle about people in your life with less-than-stellar hygiene habits.[9]
    • You might also find out that they’re the messy one! If that’s the case, follow up with questions about the biggest mess they’ve ever made.

Method 10 of 11:
“If you could change your name, what would you choose?”
  1. Discover how this person wants to be perceived in daily life. The name they choose might fit them better than their own name, and you can learn more about their personality this way. You might also learn that they’re totally ridiculous if they pick a name that’s really out of the box! You could also ask questions like:[10]
    • “What was your nickname growing up?”
    • “Do you like your middle name?”

Method 11 of 11:
“What movie absolutely scarred you for life?”
  1. Figure out what genre of movie they like to watch with this inquiry. Maybe they watched a horror movie a little too early in life and can’t stomach them anymore. Or, maybe they saw their parents watching a rom-com and walked in right as the main characters were kissing.[11]
    • You can ask other questions along the same lines, like: “What was your favorite movie as a kid?” Or, “What’s your favorite movie of all time?”

Tips
  • Don’t be afraid to answer the questions yourself! That way, the other person can get to know you at the same time.
